“At the dawn of Celtic Autumn I am presented with a whiff of Summer.“

-Stefanie Neumann

According to the Celtic calendar Autumn has already begun with the Lughnasadh festival at the beginning of the month.

For me the Celtic seasons have always been more coherent than the Gregorian ones.  This has already been the case when I was a child, before I knew anything about the various  calendrical time allocations.

Here in North Germany, the sun still has strength now in August, and the days still can be quite hot.  Especially the afternoons.  At night, however, it sometimes gets delicately cool already, and sometimes I can perceive a first whiff of snow in the night air, alright.

On the trees and bushes the first Autumn fruits are becoming ripe now and the first leaves are already changing colour.  In the wind that blows from the coast into the city from time to time, the first yellow leaves are dancing down towards the ground from the aspen trees.

There are not many aspen trees at the Osdorfer Feldmark, and thus the leaves on the trees still were summery green when we walked there some two weeks ago.  Therefore the first berries could already be discovered.  While the hawthorn berries were still in the maturing process the first blackberries offered themselves for consumption.  Also, the sweet light which is brought by the later part of the day was already noticeable when we made our way home in the early evening and it was shining golden on the summery wild flowers by the wayside.  I took a few pictures with the mobile phone and am distributing them throughout this blog post.

For Lughnasadh Kim and I originally had planned a special meal.  As on that day both of us were suffering a bit from gastrointestinal issues we decided do have a belated celebration on the following weekend.  Thus, we took a walk to the nearby Dahlia Garden, last Saturday – images from that will be published on Steffi’s Kokopelli Bee Free Blog and can be viewed on the 08.08.2017 from 08:08 a.m.,  >> here <<.  After our return we finally enjoyed our long prepared vegan festive meal.  As a starter we had Ocean Pumpkin Fruits from pieces of salad cucumber, zucchini and water melon rind with Cocktail Sauce, both homemade and home fermented.  As a main dish we ate zucchini based Matjes Pot, also homemade and home fermented.  With that we had Jacket Potatoes.  We fermented the fruit and vegetable ingredients for both courses, for which I developed the recipes myself, with dulse flakes so that they took on a nice ocean taste.  Apart from that we had started our own orange lemonade two days prior.  The soy yoghurt for the marinade of the Zucchini-Matjes came from our own production, as well.  The dessert was supposed to be fresh blueberries but we had eaten them up a few days earlier.  They are simply best fresh.  So we had a piece of fair-trade organic chocolate for dessert on Saturday.  Chocolate always works.

This way we slid very gently and pleasantly from a rainy Summer into a sunny Autumn.

How was your transition into the new season?

Are you ready to be guided by love, today?

Much Love,
Steffi
